A popular Vietnamese treat, this sticky, chewy steamed cake is infused with pandan essence and filled with a sweetened mung bean and coconut flakes. Easy and fun to make, it’s a dessert the whole family will enjoy!

Ingredients:
Filling:
1/2 cup mashed mung bean (Video link:
3 Tbsp grated coconut
3 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Dough:
2 cups tapioca starch
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups water
2 tsp vegetable oil
1/4 tsp pandan paste
1/2 cup grated coconut

silicone baking cups
16-4 inch squares of banana leaves
2 tsp vegetable oil

Yields: 16 cakes

½ m. cà phê tinh dầu vani

480 ml nước

120 g cup dừa vụn

  3. Hello, thank you for sharing this recipe. It worked the first time I made it but the next few times I made it, my dough would not thicken. I would continue to stir after everything was dissolved but it would never get the thick feeling at all. What would you recommend I do differently? I have followed your ingredients and step by step process. I just keep getting stuck at the heating the dough process. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

  7. Hello Tom, I had a lot of this as a child too and loved the color and texture. I usually have frozen mashed mung bean onhand and it makes the preparation faster. Happy Cooking!
